Langshaw Dancity offers classes in classical ballet, tap, modern & contemporary, jazz and acrobatics with a faculty of fully qualified teachers of internationally recognised status in varied dance disciplines whose aim it is to provide well disciplined classes in an enjoyable atmosphere.
The foundation of technique for all dance styles, classical ballet training is essential for a career in dance. We teach and send students for examinations using the the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. To be considered for an examination students must take two lessons (Primary - Grade 5) or three lessons (Intermediate Foundation - Advanced 2) per week.
Modern dance - or contemporary as it is sometimes known - is a fusion of classical technique with more modern style or finish. Often known as jazz technique, modern classes prepare the student for a range of dance styles. We follow the UK-based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus.
Tap dancing is a well-known style making use of metal plates attached to special shoes to make rhythmic ‘taps’. We grade students and send them for examinations using the UK-based Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus.
Jazz dancing can encompass everything from Broadway-style choreography to up-to-date commercial styles. We offer two levels - Junior (12 years & under) and Senior - and students study a wide variety of styles throughout the year.
Our Performance or Show Group represents Langshaw Dancity regularly at eisteddfods and other performance events. To be considered for the Performance Class students MUST take a minimum of classical ballet, modern, tap AND jazz classes. This class requires extra commitment from both students and parents for rehearsal and performance dates.
Offered to students as part of our Performance package, acrobatics teaches dance-based balance and tumbling skills.
