In 2018, Langshaw Dancity celebrates an incredible 50 years under the amazing direction of principal Bernadette Langshaw-Clark. To celebrate this milestone we are undertaking an exciting program of performances, workshops, gala presentation and cocktail party.
Langshaw Dancity's aim is that students should enjoy their dancing, gain good technical dance skills and finish each year with a sense of satisfaction and the knowledge that they have achieved something worthwhile for themselves.
Students accepted for private lessons are entered for dance eisteddfods, if they wish. Langshaw Dancity's award-winning Performance Group is chosen from students who do ballet, tap, modern and jazz classes.
Students are entered for the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) Ballet Grades and Major examinations and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Tap and Modern Grades and Major examinations.
All students are assessed during the year and a decision made on their suitability to enter their respective examinations.
Normally there are two examination sessions per year. It is expected that students entering RAD examinations will attend two classes per week and at least three classes per week for Major examinations.
The popularity of Langshaw Dancity, has seen an understandable growth in requests for students to perform publicly. Students have performed extensively thoughout Australia and, indeed, the world including numerous appearances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, a featured performance for Her Majesty The Queen at the opening of Sydney's Darling Harbour, numerous sporting events including NRL Grand Finals and the Bledisloe Cup, featured roles at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games as well as overseas performance tours to USA (1986, 2001, 2008, 2011, 2013 & 2016), Japan (1990) and the UK (1993).
A majority of Langshaw Dancity students go on to professional careers in the performing arts industry as dancers, directors, choreographers, critics and agents. Click here to see our past and present student's proud achievements.
